Travel Advice to Mongolia // Adventure crossing 2500km on Mountain Bike Short video!

Mongolia X2012 // Mountain biking in the land of Genghis Khan // A short bicycle film in HD from Brian Perich on Vimeo.

Over the summer (July-August, 2012) I traveled to Ulanbaatar, Mongolia and began cycling Northwest to cross 2500km of the mountainous steppe. Wonders included, observing the Nomadic Khalk Mongolian culture and their pasturing ways of surviving in a primitive, sustainable way of living dating back centuries. Although modernities have come to Mongolia, the nomadic way of life and culture remain steadfast across the open landscapes, while larger cities like Ulaanbaatar have continued to modernize and develop. I prefer the non-city, undeveloped terrain, dirt roads, and friendly people over the developed, congested and hectic aspects of Ulaanbaatar, although summer is a good time to start in the country's capital.

Flights into Ulaanbaater internationally make the start convenient and the access to hotels and guesthouses in Ulaanbaatar and a commercial hub for shopping, make it a place to stock up on necessary food for starting a trip by bike. Bikepacking enthusiasts that pack light, have lightweight bicycles built for rough, off-road terrain and have the capacity to 1)survive on protein shakes and pasta 2)filter their own water from wild sources 3)camp at random locations 4)Get along with Mongolian nomadic cultures in basic language and respect - will be at home on this 1.5 million square km range with a total population of just over 3 million people!
